Polish Connection / The Norwegian Conciliation Board

The Norwegian Conciliation Board

The Norwegian Conciliation Board (Norw. Forliksråd) is the court of first instance within the Norwegian judiciary and is responsible for settling legal disputes between employers and employees concerning unpaid remunerations, such as holiday pay (Norw. Feriepenger) or overtime pay, among other things. Before an employee brings a case against an employer to the Conciliation Board, he should make an attempt at resolving the matter in other ways, such as by sending an official written notice to the employer to pay outstanding remuneration.

You can expect the Board to summon both parties to a hearing in Norway, to which you must appear in person or appoint a representative. The decisions of the Council are binding on both parties. The appeal lodged against such a decision constitutes referring the case to court.

We prepare suits to the Norwegian Conciliation Board in accordance with formal procedures on behalf of the client and on the basis of documentation presented by him. The participation in the hearing is at the discretion of the client and is not included in the service provided by our company.

Information/documents required:

    • documentation confirming claims against the employer (contract of employment, pay slips, list of working hours, previous correspondence, etc.)
